Judith Gaffney is the founder/designer of Culture Trees – an African-inspired premium clothing line. Judith launched Culture Trees in 2018, which was inspired by her parents who challenged her to dream big, strive for excellence, and to never settle for mediocrity. Culture Trees has been featured in New York Fashion Week and other venues local and abroad. In 2019, Culture Trees launched a sustainable collection made with 100% organic cotton in Burkina Faso, West Africa, where they employed artisans in a small women’s cooperative. This sustainable collection was featured in the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum in Manhattan, New York.

During the peak of Covid-19 in New York, Judith received an urgent message via an Instagram chat group that the ICU nurses at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital needed additional PPE – scrub caps to protect their hair. She immediately responded to the need. The testimonials from doctors and nurses were overwhelming. They stated that the colors and patterns of the scrub caps brightened their spirits and illuminated their dark and fearful atmosphere. After hearing this, Judith realized that her scrub caps were fulfilling the Culture Trees mission – to promote hope and inspiration. She named the scrub caps – Sustainable Scrub Caps of Healing. They are washable & reusable - less waste in the landfill; and from studies of color psychology, the colorful scrub caps promote healing. Judith decided from the onset of her business that a portion of the sales -would go toward helping those in need, with emphasis on children and families living in transitional houses. To that end, she provides a free summer program entitled; (BLAST-Building Leaders and Skilled Training) for children at the Family Service League Shelter in Brentwood, Long Island. The BLAST camp introduces the participants to marine biology, banking, entrepreneurial skills, ziplining, and other fun activities.

Culture Trees is more than a fashion design company, it is a tool to seam dreams, bring hope, and inspiration to others.
